Famous Modern Chair Designs and How to Use Them

July 24, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

Over the last several decades, modern chair design has graced many interiors and have featured prominently in residential and commercial establishments. But will these classic designs ever go out of style? They were conceived by some of the most celebrated designers and heralded for their innovation and timelessness. Likely, you will not see them replaced any time soon.

You may have had your eye one of these modern chairs for some time, but find yourself struggling to decide which space it will fit best. This article will briefly discuss how to apply these chairs in a variety of settings.

Eames Lounge Chair

Perhaps one of the most famous chairs representing the mid-century design revolution, the Eames lounge chair is sleek and quite masculine with its plywood and leather construction. It looks best when paired with minimalist interiors along with an accompanying ottoman. There are good quality replicas available today, but you can buy a licensed designer chair for around $4000.

The Egg Chair by Arne Jacobson

This chair is another mid-century modern classic. It features a unique shape which made it a striking piece loved by many. It was initially designed for the Radisson Blu Hotel in Germany, but quickly became well-known and now used as an accent piece in many homes. This chair has a curved back and bottom, which makes it a perfect choice if the room has high ceilings. Spaces where this chair would look best include a loft, a home office, or a library.

The Tulip Chair

The designer Eero Saarinen made history when he conceived this one-legged piece featuring curved lines and minimalist appeal. It makes a striking addition to a modern dining room with simple furnishings and subtle accents.

The Florence Chair

This design came out in 1954 and is easily identified because of the boxy appearance and clean lines. It quickly became a modern classic because of its versatility. The best way to use this chair is in a room where there are pieces with organic shapes to contrast the hard edges.

The Ball Chair by Eerio Aarnio

The ball chair is perhaps ubiquitously associated with retro interior design. The futuristic design is quite unconventional and ahead of its time. Although primarily geared to cater towards industrial clients, nowadays homeowners have also added this chair as an interior accent. It pairs best with an open room layout and creates a playful atmosphere.

The Eiffel Base Shell Chair by Eames

The base of this chair reflects the Eiffel tower, and the curves of the seat resemble that of a turtle’s shell. The design is simple, which makes it timeless and highly adaptable in today’s transitional interiors. Nowadays, it is used primarily as a side chair, or as a dining chair in modern minimalist homes.

Bibendum Chair by Eileen Gray

The one-of-a-kind design of this chair features tubular arms and plush seating. It tends to look oversized, but the curved shape gives it a playful appearance which will contrast well with other design elements such as wood, metal, or stone.

Guide to Buying Vintage Furniture

July 12, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

If you are looking for high-quality furniture but have a limited budget, buying vintage is the next best thing. But looking for vintage pieces is not similar to bargain hunting or going to a local thrift shop. More often than not, genuine vintage pieces can be found only in specialty stores. For a piece to be considered vintage, it has to be at least 30 years old.

Buying vintage furniture online

The internet is another helpful tool in finding that perfect vintage leather sofa you have been thinking about getting for your home. Many websites sell only vintage furniture, and each piece is usually labelled with the year it was manufactured. In addition to specialty websites, you can also find auction sites with a wide array of choices, plus the option to bid on the piece you want.

The advantage of searching online is the extensive selection available. Unfortunately, not being able to inspect the piece in person means you are taking the risk of buying something from a seller who may or may not be reputable. Online photos also have limitations and sometimes what you see in pictures may look quite different in person. Nevertheless, with a bit of work, it is likely you will find one-of-a-kind vintage furniture online.

Tips on buying vintage furniture

Buying brand-new furniture is challenging enough, let alone buying vintage furniture. How do you find something that is worth your money?

  • Look for a piece of furniture that has a good structure and foundation. The foundation of the vintage piece you are buying is a telling sign that it is good quality. Check the frames and the joints. You can have a sofa reupholstered, but it is only worth the cost if the structure is excellent.
  • Look for minimal signs of use. When buying vintage furniture, look for examples that have been gently used. Consignment stores often have a better selection than ordinary second-hand shops.
  • Visit good sources frequently. Explore several vintage stores within your area. Estate sales and flea markets sometimes yield great finds, but you need to take time to find out where the best ones are.
  • Search for lesser known brands. Do not confine your choices to popular brands. Sometimes, less prominent furniture manufactures during a specific era may have made excellent furniture that is less expensive.
  • Consider repurposing the piece. If you are a DIY enthusiast, you can also buy vintage furniture and repurpose it for added style. For example, an old chest can be used as a coffee table, and a small table can be refurbished into a nightstand.
  • Buy pieces that fit your space. Do not forget to measure the available space in your home before you buy furniture. A great looking piece is useless if it will not fit through your door.

Buying vintage furniture also means you do not have to look for pieces that match. Instead of buying a whole set which is likely going to be expensive, look for individual pieces that look great together. This way, you are not only saving money but also uniquely expressing your design style.

9 Things Guests Notice Most About Your House

May 28, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

It’s a fact that no one’s home is perfect but you can try to make your house, a worthy home; where people can feel connected with each other.

We have summarized some points which usually guests notice when they enter your home.

1. Hospitality

Hospitality is all about people welcoming other people at their place. It is an art of receiving and entertaining guest. The moment they enter your home, make it obvious that their presence means the world to you. There are some guests who are unwelcomed or unexpected as well and unexpected visitors are really troublesome because they come at odd hours. But try to give a warm greeting and offer a drink to everyone whether the guests are expected or unexpected.

2. Entrance

Make sure that the entry to your house is welcoming to your guests. They will need/notice a “welcome mat” to wipe their shoes on entering your home. After that, is there any proper place to put their shoes and is there any place to put their jackets or just in case; umbrella.

3. Odors

When your guests enters in your living room first thing that they observe is not the decor not the placement of furniture but the scent. Atmosphere matters a lot.  People remember the moments with fragrances. If there is a bad smell it will make a memory of negative impression based on that smell.

4. Lightning

Lighting of a room can change the mood of a room. Placement and type are important aspects according to garbage disposal companies. If your room is filled with natural lights then well and good but if there is a need to add artificial lights make sure that; no harsh sources of artificial lights.

5. Sitting Arrangement/Furniture Placement

Some people have a habit of rearranging the furniture mentally in someone else’s house so make sure that there is a proper sitting arrangement for everyone and the sofas are clean, there should be no stains on your cushions. There is so much clutter simply remove the excess things from your home because you are used to it but your guests are not they will definitely notice the clutter. So, use a junk removal company to ensure there is not unnecessary junk in your house to annoy guests.

6. Animal Fur

If your guest are non-pet owner then they will keenly observe the presence of any pet. They may notice their bedding, their food bowls and their litter box, so make sure to clean them regularly if you have any pet in your home.

7. Toys

If you have children in your home or the guest will bring their children with them, you can’t stop them from playing with toys while they are creating the mess with toys. The only solution is to make a corner for them to play with toys.

8. A Sink Full of Dishes

If there are some females that are your guests chances are they will come to your kitchen with you and look into every little detail, people really notice if your kitchen is messy. A well-furnished and organized kitchen gives a much positive impression to the eyes of your guests. Some people even feel stressed if the kitchen is unclean.

9. Bathroom Is Not Clean

Chances are high that your guest will use your bathroom during their visit and if the bathroom is not clean it’s a nightmare for your guests. Make sure there are clean washroom towels. Soap or a hand wash is present, enough toilet papers are there.

It’s about making your company feel welcome so try not to skip a single step as said by garbage disposal companies. If you think that we have left some points to mention, think of the thing that you notice when you visit someone else’s home!

Looking For Cam Jobs? Here’s What You Should Definitely Avoid!

April 2, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

Cam jobs currently offer a lot of benefits, ranging from really high earnings to deluxe working environments, training sessions, tech suport and more, as well as a legal framework that ensures you’ll be treated properly and paid fairly for your work.

Unfortunately, the growing market also accomodates cam jobs from studios that not only do not offer these benefits, but will probably offer the worst working experience in your life. In order to avoid this kind of situation, you must be informed about the bad practices within this field and focus on the important details of every cam jobs offer or proposition that catches your interest.

What should you pay attention to and what to avoid?

  • The very first sign that should set off your alarms is the fact that a studio that offers certain cam jobs does not include a precise address in the job announcement. Even if the offer is tempting at first glance, if the studio does not have a website or does not mention a precise location, you should be suspicious. You probably don’t want to end up searching for the studio on back alleys or realizing that the location is shady at best. These kind of cam jobs are definitely not what you need or are looking for, so try to avoid the offers and studios that do not show any address.
  • Minimalistic decors, but not in the good way! A studio that respects its models offers deluxe working environment. If the cam jobs you are interested in take you to a studio with little or no furniture, small rooms and not the best equipment you’ve ever seen, then it’s about time you leave.
  • The lack of trainers and technical support. If you are at the interview and the studio representative ensures you that you will be trained and supported in your activity, but you just don’t see or meet a team that can do all those things, your red light should start blinking. If you don’t have previous experience in this activity – a fact that applies to most young women that look for cam jobs – you will certainly need full-time support, a good training program that helps you get used to the online platforms and the activity itself, and people to turn to, in case you need certain advice or help in any matter.
  • If the cam jobs post has no photos, offers too little information and promises to offer more details at the interview or in a private conversation, your answer should be a big NO! If the transparency is missing and the important details are not mentioned, you will have no certainty about your job. It’s clear that these cam jobs ads have something to hide, and the lack of essential information and details demonstrates this, so you should avoid incomplete cam jobs opportunities.
  • When you find yourself alone in a room and the computer does not function properly or if you’re stuck in a conversation and need some help to keep things running smoothly, but there is no one to help you, it should be pretty clear that you are not in the right place and you should urgently look for better cam jobs.

The details above will help you avoid the cam jobs that only “offer” discomfort and waste your time, and, from now on, you’ll be able to spot the real offers that can get you closer to the goals you set for yourself.

The cam jobsoffered by the largest online modeling agency in the world, Studio 20, will give you the chance to grow and evolve in the direction you desire. If you are over 18 years old, schedule an interview and convince yourself that this is the dreamjob you’ve been waiting for!

Louis Hernandez Jr – From Three To One, Who Will Win The Premier League?

February 28, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

Ladies and gentlemen we have just 12 games to go in the Premie League 2018/19 and the final challenge will be between three, that’s right, just three teams of the 20. Currently sitting in top spot are Manchester City with 65 points, second are Liverpool was 65 points (goal difference) and surprisingly in third spot are Tottenham Hotspur. The league looked just about wrapped up by Christmas with a rampant Liverpool making it into the new year unbeaten. After some sketchy results however, the pressure is starting to tell. My buddy Louis Hernandez Jr and I often talk about what will happen and we are in agreement for the first time ever, here’s how we think it will play out.

Winners – Manchester City

Man City’s game against Liverpool at the beginning of January was a landmark game, lose and go 9 points behind, or win and keep it to within just 3. The Citizens did what they do best and won the game, thus piling the pressure onto a Liverpool side with almost no experience of a title run-in. This is where City will win the title, they know what it takes, they have been there before and they are hitting great form at a great time. Kevin de Bruyne will be the difference as City make it back-to-back titles.

Second Spot – Tottenham

We believe that Liverpool will not only throw it all away, they may not even finish second. What Spurs have done this season is outstanding, no transfers in summer or January, no home as the new stadium isn’t yet ready and their star players with lengthy periods out in the new year. Nonetheless Spurs look in great form and they have ground out result after result. You wonder how Spurs have arrived here given that they have lost 6 games altogether, but the fact that they haven’t drawn a single one is what has helped the points tally. Spurs have to play both Liverpool and City, both away admittedly, and if they can scrape a win at Anfield, they could wind up in 2nd spot in what would be a phenomenal season.

Third Place – Liverpool

Liverpool will not lose this league title because of a lack of quality, nor will they lose it because of a lack of squad depth, as they do have both with the only potential exception the defense. No, Liverpool will lose this title because of the psychology that comes with it, just like Newcastle did all those years ago. Other than James Milner there isn’t a player in that side who has faced a tough Premier League run-in and that is something which may eventually cost them. If they fail this year then you can just about bet that 2019/20 will be their year, this side is simply too good for it not to be.

What are your predictions for the end of the season?

James P DeVellis – Vital Skills Which Any Print Journalist Needs

February 28, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

James P DeVellis is a local journalist who has over 30 years of experience writing about local events, important news and he has even extended his professionalism to some of the more quirky local stories like the recent fox epidemic! James has had chances to go national with his journalism but he always preferred to keep things local and so voluntarily refused these job offers. Journalism is one of the most common majors which is taken by university students today but the actual number of students who go on to work in journalism is a very low percentage of those who have chosen the major. James believes that the reason for this is that many lack the required skills to be a journalist, and here is what he believes the vital skills are.

Desire for the Story

Being a journalist is about far more than simply being a great writer or storyteller, it is also about getting the story in the first place. This is a skill which is not easy, a reporter must chase up sources, seek out individuals who may be able to help support the story and of course, do all of this without any kind of misconduct at all. The writing of the story is of course important, but without the leg work there wouldn’t be a story to write.

Writing

Many people completely overlook the importance of writing ability for journalists, thinking that as long as it is accurate and perhaps a little dramatic, that this will be enough. Journalism however is the purest form of writing and the difference between the quality of the writer can make the same story look either drab or dramatic. Penmanship is a key skill which anyone needs if they want to go on to become a journalist one day.

Relationships

Something else which is vitally important for any reporter or journalist is their ability to build and maintain strong relationships with sources. A journalist must amass a black book of contacts which they can call upon when they need some help with a story. These can be all manner of contacts from local police to courtroom workers, local shopkeepers and occasionally some criminals who are in the know. A journalist is only as good as his or her sources so building relationships is vitally important.

Passion

Finally passion is required in order to become a great journalist, anyone who thinks to become a journalist yet doesn’t really have the passion for it will simply not be able to do it well and they wouldn’t last long at all in this environment. One must have a passion for writing, a passion for the truth and a passion for working in media. Without this passion, it isn’t even worth trying.

Would you like to become a journalist one day, do you think that you have the skills to do it?

Ian Weisberg – The 3 Albums I Would Take to a Desert Island

February 28, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

I have a friend absolutely obsessed by music. Well, more the ´Long Player´ album than simply just music. To him it’s like a ritual that is handed from the producer and musician directly to his ears. He considers it a curated aural show personally for him.

Ian Weisberg reintroduced me to the LP with the added significance of selecting one’s desert island discs. For some time, my listening pleasure had devolved to a point of playlists and track skipping. Rarely have I been listening to an album entirely from start to finish and never without some other activity that distracts me from solely appreciating the music.

As far as determining what records Id take to a desert island, the main criteria would be that is so good well put together, you are compelled to listen from start to finish without interruption or distraction.

These are my 3 records that fulfill that criteria.

Tricky- Maxinquaye. Island Records (1995)
Named after Tricky’s late mother, ´Maxinquaye´ remains foremost my favourite album. From the first haunting calls on ´Ponderosa´ with its punctuating pipes and unusually awkward rhythms set to lyrics of Massive Attack´s ´Karmacoma´, this record never fails to capture my attention. It transports me directly to a specific time and place of Bristol in the 1990´s, evoking scenes of urban deprivation and struggle contrasted against the attachments of love and sex.

It’s a darker vision of what was considered at the time ´Trip Hop´.
The spatial structure to beats and evocative sampling of wind instruments compliment Tricky´s raspily spoken word, interjected with the velvety rich tones of Martina Topley-Bird´s vocals. It’s like an overheard conversation of a dysfunctional relationship.

It’s a visual album and pulls me into the indulgence of melancholy and introspection to which I find myself the most inspired.

Blur – Parklife. Food Records. (1994)

Undefinable as a record while offering a depth of story-telling,
Parklife plays out like patchwork of blighted British lives set to various genre defining soundtracks. From synth pop, punk and new wave, it always felt like having a book read to you whilst working through someone’s record collection.

For this reason, you could easily sit and listen through the entire record, following the maligned characters’ lives as their inner worlds start to unravel like some tragic story in a play. Hugely compelling and entertaining, it always left enough room to imagine these people as familiars in your own life.

The album functions as a snapshot of life in Southern England, at a time of tumultuous changes in the 90´s. I was growing up there at the time and finding myself more curious about the world around me, ´Parklife´ crystallised this moment for me.
Further references to TV shows and the shipping forecast made it comfortably familiar. Something I would need on a desert island!

Pink Floyd – Piper at the Gates of Dawn. EMI. (1967)

A friendship defining album is how I would describe Pink Floyd’s debut record. My oldest friend Sam Mckeone introduced me to this album in my formative years at school revealing my curiosity into music and how experimental sound could alleviate your mind to a euphoric state of being.

At the time of first hearing it, I had started playing electric guitar but getting increasingly frustrated by the typical formulas of rock music. This album opened up the possibilities of noise through feedback and recording techniques and as a result encouraged me to play music with other musicians.

Hypnotic and mind altering, it’s an example of how potent music can be.

Peter Zieve – Why You Should Help Your Community

February 28, 2019 by Theo Leave a Comment

Peter Zieve is a considered something of a hero here in Mukilteo, Washington, and in Seattle for that matter, and news outlets such as the Herald often speak about how great he is. Peter however is not famous for politics or sports nor for his insane success as CEO of Electroimpact, Peter has become a local hero because of the outstanding work that he does in the community. Peter has a business program here which helps out young kids, he also heads up a campaign for more money to be given to struggling communities and he is vociferous in bringing about change, both here in Mukilteo, Washington and beyond. With Peter’s story in mind, I wanted to write a quick blog post about why you should help out your community, just like Peter has.

Feels Good

Let’s start with that selfish side of us which almost everyone has, it feels great to do some good for others in your community. We all of that slight ‘what’s in it for me?’ approach when considering giving up our time or our money and in this case, there is something in it for everyone. The person or people who you help will have had their lives changed and you will walk away feeling like you really made a difference and that will make you feel good, as long as everyone is happy there is no shame in feeling good.

Could Be You

We are never many steps away from running into problems that could see us require the help of the community so there is a school of thought which suggests that we should be some kindness forward. Just imagine if you were in the situation that some within your community are in, and nobody wanted to help you, how do you think that would make you feel? Pretty terrible I imagine, and that is how others may feel when you aren’t helping.

The People

The erosion of the community over the last 2 decades alone are a clear indicator that politicians don’t care about the community and in truth they would probably prefer to divide and conquer rather than see us come together. Social injustice and socio-economic problems are actually beneficial for government and big businesses because it keeps the people down where they can be controlled. This is precisely why the people within small and large communities need to come together and do something on our own. If we rely on the support of each other and can count on it, then as a unit we are much stronger and we can create a loving and positive community that is built on a network of trust and support.

There are all kinds of ways that you can give up your time, expertise for money in order to help your local community, so there is very little excuse as to why you can’t, go do something positive today!
