Introduction to Various Types of CBD Products

March 20, 2020 by Theo Leave a Comment

The cannabis plant is rightfully getting more and more recognized as our health’s natural ally. As new research on the plant emerges every day, we are getting closer to seeing the bigger picture behind its beneficial nature. On some of our other blogs, we have discussed CBD oil and gummies made from cannabidiol, which is one of the main cannabinoids found in the plant. Let’s talk some more about products made from this component.

CBD Extract

The extract is incredibly rich in cannabinoids other than cannabidiol, and it also contains healthy fatty acids and terpenoids (substances that give these products a specific taste and aroma). Its standard appearance is similar to that of honey, but it can also look like a dark paste. While there are quite a few methods of extraction available at the moment, two of the most commonly used are the supercritical CO₂ extraction and decarboxylation. Extracts are then filtered, leaving only the purest CBD.

Extracts, however, are typically not used on their own, but rather as an ingredient in other CBD-based products. Those who choose to use the extract as a form of standalone medicine take it sublingually or swallow it in small doses.

Isolate

Everything that needs to be said about these products is in the name—the substance is more than 99% pure CBD. Most often, the isolate comes in the form of a slab, or as a crystal-like powder. One of the things that are important to point out is that this is probably the safest CBD product out of all since it does not contain THC. That is why people who have to undergo drug tests choose the isolate, and the method is proven to be very successful.

Similarly to extracts, the isolate is typically combined with other compounds. Most people choose to mix it with carrier oils (essential oils with high bioavailability, such as coconut, jojoba, almond, and grapeseed oil). Other ways of using it include capsules, smoking or dabbing, edibles, etc.

Beauty products

The beauty industry is constantly improving old and inventing new products that are pushing the envelope. CBD is slowly but surely finding its rightful place in this world, and is especially helpful to those fighting skin conditions like acne vulgaris, irritation, inflammation, etc.

Some of the most popular beauty products that contain cannabidiol are creams and lotions, serums and face masks, shampoos, lip products, etc.

An Emerging Trend: Pet Products

As you probably know, humans are not the only beings with the endocannabinoid system. Most animals have it, which is why diligent pet owners choose to give their pets CBD-infused foods and products. Not only do these products improve their pets’ health and well-being, but they are also proven to be effective in times of stress (thunderstorms, post-adoption period, or when attacked by other animals).

Treats and kibble, capsules and sprays, as well as tinctures are becoming more available in pet stores around the United States and the world.

There are many other products on the market that are getting improved constantly as the research on cannabidiol progresses. We have a lot more coming, so stay tuned.
