Do you know how to properly wash and dry your women or men’s toupee or wigs to always keep it looking like the first day? Have you had doubts about what type of maintenance you need but have not been able to get advice on it? Are you sure you use the right products to keep it in perfect condition for longer?
If you are not sure how to care for your wig, that accessory that has become one of the essential keys to your image, pay attention to the following guidelines from our experts to make your wig (whether aesthetic or oncological) look so good Like the first day.
1.- What kind of products should you use?
Watch out! Any product to wash and care for your wig is not valid. In fact, you should never use washing products for normal hair, since they are not suitable and the only thing you would achieve is spoiling it over time. It is better to opt for a specific product. Its formula will take care of the hair of your wig and will extend its duration, keeping it in perfect condition.
2.- Before washing, untangle.
You need to check that the hair on the wig is detangled before washing it. For this, it is best to use a wide-toothed comb. Never use brushes, and remember that always detangling with dry hair is essential to take care of your wig.
3.- Always use warm or cold water.
Please note that fiber hair generally does not support heat. Therefore, the best thing to do to wash your wig is to opt for warm/cold water and use the right products for this type of hair.
4.- Washing.
Once untangled, fill the sink with cold/lukewarm water (just over a liter) and dissolve a hazelnut-sized amount of shampoo in the water. Gently lower the wig into the shampoo bath and let it sit for about 30 minutes. You should not rub or comb your mens custom hair pieces. The shampoo has specific characteristics and will not create foam.
5.- The rinse.
After those 30 minutes of washing, take the wig out and rinse directly with plenty of cold water, avoiding tangling it. Once rinsed, put a small amount of balm on your hands and apply to hair from mid-lengths to ends. Once done, rinse the wig.
6.- Drying.
Once we have washed the wig well, we only have to let it air dry. To do this, place your wig on the support, since this allows both the interior and exterior areas to dry. Before doing it, remember to remove excess water by wrapping it in a towel… but always without rubbing or twisting the hair!
7.- The hairstyle.
Keep in mind that you can never use heat devices such as dryers, irons, curling irons, etc. with your synthetic wig. Once the wig is dry, use the tips of your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to give your wig the hairstyle and style you want. It is not recommended to comb it when it is wet so that it does not get damaged. The key to taking care of your French lace hair toupee correctly is always to comb it once it is completely dry.
8.- Final touches.
You can spray your wig with conditioning spray at about 10 cm, this will provide protection and shine to the hair. Then shake and style into the desired style.
Other expert tips to keep in mind:
- Avoid sources of heat and steam. Therefore, do not cook with the wig on and never open the oven with it on your head.
- Try not to use hairspray and if you do, use hairspray specially designed for wigs.
- This type of wig cannot be dyed, so try not to expose it to the sun for a long time so that it does not spoil its color.
- Do not forget to shake your wig before using it. This will give the hairstyle more volume.
